God looks at the heart

Poor King Saul.  He was foolish, impatient, and thought if he mostly obeyed the Lord that would be good enough.  Sounds a little like me.  But Saul was king of Israel.  He was a commander of armies.  Bless him, he just couldn’t get it right.  Hard as he tried, and I think he really was trying to honor the Lord, but his Self just kept getting in the way.  He would follow his own desires and try to fit them in with what God had asked him to do.  (read I Sam. 15:10 for an example of this).

How many times do we take the path that God chose for us and maybe carry an extra bag of sin with us on the journey?  Something we were not supposed to bring.  Does it count as obedience if we’re walking the right path with the wrong heart?  Nope, I think not.

Man judge by the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. I Sam 16:7

Nope.  It’s not enough to just look good on the outside. But, of course, we know that.
